The Opioid Crisis

We’ve all heard the recent stories regarding opioids. From how addicting these tiny prescribed drugs can be to how they often lead to drugs such as heroin. There’s no denying that America has a drug problem. In fact, as of 2016, opioid overdoses take the lives of more Americans than car accidents, guns, or HIV. (source)

This alone makes it easy to understand why the White House has declared a public health emergency on the opioid crisis. But how did we get here and what’s the story behind opioids?
